Morris Minor 1954

  •  Vehicle Overview
  •  General Information
The Morris Minor is a British car that debuted at the Earls Court Motor Show, London, on 20 September 1948. Designed under the leadership of Alec Issigonis, more than 1.3 million were manufactured between 1948 and 1972 in three series: the MM (1948), the Series II (1952) and finally the 1000 series (1954).

The minor series of cars were considered as a classic example of automotive design, as well as profound "Englishness". The Morris Minor houses a 948 cc liquid cooled engine which powers a 4 speed floor mounted manual gearbox. Morris Minor has always been a vital part of the automobile revolution which changed the landscape of the industry. We had the privilege to be a part of the history when Team Autorounders restored the beauty of the old rusty Morris
We started with the body work which included the Bonnet, doors, fenders, quarter panels. All the body parts were hand fabricated from sheet metal as getting new ones were not an option. Some of the things like the unique front split windscreen frame, the rear windscreen frame, the bonnet with its inner frame were fabricated in the workshop. All the engine parts including pistons headsets etc were reconditioned. The carburettor, which is the lungs of the engine, was reconditioned as per original style to allow easy functioning.

The propeller shaft was newly fabricated along with the differential and rear axle. Suspensions are one of the most abused parts in a car due to the sorry state of roads, so we had to make sure that the reconditioned suspensions are reliable and sturdy enough to keep the car safe from scraping its belly on the roads. The front and rear brakes were overhauled with the master cylinder and wheel cylinders reconditioned. The brake drums were polished and cut to bring the Morris to a halt effectively and efficiently. The alternator assembly was modified then fitted to the newly built engine.

Our efforts paid off when we won 1st prize for Resurrection of the car to its current condition at the Vintage car fiesta organized by VCCCI, Feb 2018.
